chaos in the cbd & friends: emotional intelligence / it's up to me
Francisco Espregueira
The vinyl-only release of the New Zealand brothers Chaos In The CBD, might be the best 12’’ of the year. Emotional Intelligence / It’s Up To Me sees them teaming up with saxophonist and fellow kiwi jazz legend Nathan Haines and South London’s own Dave Koor (a.k.a. Modified Man), Chicago’s Lee Pearson Jnr (known for his writing for Larry Heard), K. LaDawn on vocals and rising star Joe Armon-Jones on keys.
Following brilliant releases on some of the best electronic-music-labels, like Rhythm Section, YAM Recordings, Mule Music or their own In Dust We Trust, Emotional Intelligence / It’s Up To Me is kind of a coming of age for the brothers. A blissful experience throughout and another demonstration of Chaos In The CBD’s maturing, amazing production skills. Via the legendary Neroli imprint, gearing up for 2020, this is a superb collaborative EP of highly emotional music. Vinyl only.
