evm128: input vol 1
Francisco Espregueira
With his origins in Bristol, but based in London, producer and DJ, EVM128 is one of the main names in the city’s broken beat scene - heavily involved in the CoOp presents label and Selectors Assemble crew. His second album, Input Vol 1, dropped last week, a few days after opening his own imprint - Dance Regular. Three years went by since Nova was released, and EVM128’s new album follows his predecessor in the quality of both productions and collaborators.
Input Vol 1 is rooted in a simple concept. Make a beat, pass it on, and let someone else add to it. Its about letting go of self and letting the music go somewhere it wouldn't have gone otherwise. Talented musicians, producers, singers and rappers came on board to fulfill the brief: Renato Paris, Turbojazz, iLL Smith, Gonzi, Shy One, Daiva, Ishfaq, James Rudie, and more. The end product is a modern day broken beat masterpiece. Everything was a joint effort. Another magnificent album, from the bruk revival we’re experiencing. Vinyl’s available.
