freddie joachim: beyond the sea of trees
Francisco Espregueira
Joining the Berlin-based Jakarta Records, Freddie Joachim released Beyond The Sea of Trees, his latest album. The California-native producer is one of the most renowned names in the instrumental hip hop scene, a scene which he contributed to immensely. Over the past 20 years, Freddie has released many albums and singles, the majority with the San Francisco-based label, Mellow Orange. His signature jazzy and soulful productions can be heard across all of his releases. Beyond The Sea of Trees is truthful to that, but developing his sound continuously.
An avid listener and collector of music, Freddie Joachim began dj-ing in the mid 90’s, which progressed into recording and producing his own music. Since then, he has continued to produce music featuring artists as J.Cole, Joey Badass, Aloe Blacc, Blu, Grap Luva, LMNO, Kev Brown and more, gaining worldwide popularity.
And as Freddie grows and matures, so does his music. This is particularly evident in Beyond The Sea of Trees, delivering 16 jazzy hip hop instrumentals including collaborations with Elijah Fox, Natalie Oliveri and FloFilz. Everything is smooth, polished, chilled. A work of an experienced master, probably his deepest album to date, from where he has been, to where he is, and perhaps, to where he sees himself in the future. For collectors, the album is available on vinyl.
