georgie sweet: misundertood
Francisco Espregueira
Misunderstood is Georgie Sweet’s fantastic debut, curated by the UK's pioneering future soul label, Futuristica Music. Counting with productions from Marc Rapson, Simon S, K15 and Mecca:83, the 20 year old natural talent from the UK has the perfect canvas to present herself as one of the most exciting acts to explore right now. Everything in Misunderstood, as Marc Mac of 4hero puts it, “has a cool uniqueness”, impressing not only by Georgie’s soulful vocals, but also by her maturity and songwriting.
Influenced by some of the greats such as Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Deborah Jordan (also from Futuristica) or Hiatus Kaiyote, Georgie Sweet also draws inspiration from more intricate soul/hip hop artists: Thundercat, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael McDonald and George Duke. And J Dilla, of course. She soars effortlessly over the lush, soulful hip hop productions from Rapson and Mecca:83 with K15 providing the more futuristic bass heavy sounds and Simon S introducing darker edged jazz beats. Misunderstood is one of the freshest debuts of 2020. Available in vinyl, via Futuristica Music.
