surprise chef: daylight savings
Francisco Espregueira
Following the acclaimed All News Is Good News the Australian quartet Surprise Chef is back with an exciting sophomore album entitled Daylight Savings, which dropped last friday via College of Knowledge Records with the collaboration of Mr Bongo. Recorded over a Spring weekend in Surprise Chef's DIY analogue studio (dubbed The College Of Knowledge), Daylight Savings expands on the dramatic 1970’s cinematic soul sound established in their previous project.
With ten intricate compositions the Melbourne-based band once again delivers complicity between its members, vivid musical soundscapes that are experimental, funky, soulful with a touch of psychedelia. Surprise Chef’s Daylight Savings is filled with the optimism and hope that comes with the impending long, warm evenings after a dreary Melbourne winter. Available in vinyl for the jazz-funk collectors.
