rapaz ego: rapaz ego canta durante la siesta
Francisco Espregueira
Pointing to his debut under the moniker Rapaz Ego, due to come out in 2021, Luís Montenegro prepares a special record, building his reputation as one of the most creative voices in the indie and alternative scene in Portugal. His latest EP derives from the forced siesta (‘nap’ in English) that 2020 brought to so many artists and introduces four tracks that portray this bitter and confined year. And through confinement, creativity and restlessness flowed to Spanish verses and Latin feelings. Rapaz Ego Canta Durante La Siesta, via Cuca Monga Discos, is sung in a bolero style with Latin-American and flamenco musical elements.
“A hero is only as good if his villain is strong”. Rapaz Ego is Montenegro’s kryptonite, living a life of its own and humanizing a story that is worth telling. Although singing in a foreign, but similar idiom, there’s an undeniable honesty in the rawness of Portuguese ‘sister’ language to a point in which Rapaz Canta Durante La Siesta sounds unpretentious and truthful. With references to the upcoming album, Rapaz Ego sings during la siesta and finds himself in the dryness of this desert year. Available in high-standard digital formats, through Cuca Monga.
