joe armon-jones: starting today
Francisco Espregueira
This week Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings drops the first full release coming out through the keys of Joe Armon-Jones. "Starting Today" follows the acclaimed "Idiom" EP released with Maxwell Owin in 2017 and Ezra Collective's (of which he’s a co-founder) "Juan Pablo" EP. The full record features Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Oscar Jerome, and more, and if the title track is anything to go by this could be one of 2018's crucial jazz releases.
Joe Armon-Jones combines free-flowing, dynamic energy with a bigger vision. He is prodigious, head-turning keys player. This is a piece of his ludicrous chops on the piano and of the talent of like-minded bandmates, who join him on the record. It comes after years of building connections and finding a vision for the music he wants to make.
"Starting Today" drops on May 4th.
