kansado: futuro tumbao ii
Francisco Espregueira
Three years after his debut on the reputed Darker Than Wax label, Kansado returns with the second chapter of the Futuro Tumbao series, featuring bold modern reinventions of classic latin rhythms. Based in uptown New York City, the Dominican-American producer is rooted in the hub of a flourishing afro-latin independent music scene. The first Futuro Tumbao addressed Afro-Cuban music, testing the waters to Futuro Tumbao II - a complete and emotive immersion into the world of Latin music.
Fusing the new and the traditional, this record conveys a special meeting between Caribbean and Latin soul music and future funk textures. Over six originals and four instrumentals, Kansado develops a love letter to the future of afro-latin music - we can hear salsa, songo rumba, merengue, but also hip hop, neo soul, contemporary jazz… from Havana and Santo Domingo to New York and L.A. Creating a musical language of his own, Kansado presents one a special second installment to a series that we hope to see further explored by him. Available on vinyl.
