vick lavender: the messenger ep
Francisco Espregueira
Vick Lavender returns to Cataleya Music with The Messenger EP, a compelling four-track offering that follows his previous successes on the label last year, No One's Going To Love You and Chicago Blue Line. As the head of Sophisticado Recordings (who also recently released an amazing double LP titled The Time Traveler), Lavender brings his signature blend of deep, jazzy, and soulful sounds to this varied collection. The Messenger EP showcases a range of musical styles and instrumentation, demonstrating Lavender’s versatility as a producer and a penchant for deepness and progressiveness (as usual he delivers long tracks for our enjoyment)
The EP opens with the stylish synths, cool saxophone lines, and vocal flourishes of the title track, which is our personal favorite of the bunch. "Abstract Union" follows with prominent guitar work and a powerful organ bassline, while "El Negro Bossa" offers a free-flowing, playful jazz excursion. Finally, "Tomass" concludes The Messenger EP with a deep and atmospheric soundscape, driven by magical keys and grooving synths. Available on vinyl, watch out for Cataleya’s output. And for Vick Lavender in case you’re new to his work - he always delivers.
