magro: beat tape
Francisco Espregueira
Around last week we received a cool email from Magro introducing us to his new project entitled Beat Tape, the first installment of and up and coming series. Magro is a drummer and a producer based in Berlin that has worked with numerous artists over the years (including Leona Berlin, Stimulus, Kenny Wesley and J Lamotta). Now he’s releasing his first project showcasing his progressive and experimental musical visions, letting them flow without limits of any sort.
Beat Tape is made up of 10 relaxed hip hop beats that are shaped by the producer’s jazz roots - deeply influenced by the work of Herbie Hancock, Chris Dave, Robert Glasper or J Dilla. Magro’s work allowed him to travel around the world, participating in some very reputable jazz festivals. Those experiences enable him to produce a very well polished piece of jazz-infused instrumental hip hop, in which every texture becomes very clear in our ears. Perfect for a relaxed weekend, Beat Tape is available in high-standard digital formats. Magro is one of the many great examples of independent music artists out there, making it in this world of limited attention.
